Woodland Union Church Member Was Caregiver, Former Waitress

Thelma (Susie) Arlene Gilbert Brinkley, 83, of Millboro, Virginia passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at her residence.

She was born May 24, 1936 in Rainelle, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Wilbert C. Gilbert and Nellie Cochran Gilbert Suttle.

Mrs. Brinkley was previously employed as a caregiver for several families in Bath County.

In her early years, she worked as a waitress at the Coffee Pot Restaurant in Millboro.

She was a member of Woodland Union Church where she sang in a Trio with Jackie Plecker and Faye Cauley. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making ceramics. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edgar Alan Brinkley of Millboro; five children, Alan Brinkley and wife, Vickie of Millboro, Barbara Power and husband, George of Florida, Betty Dudley of Millboro Springs, Virginia, Julian Brinkley and James Brinkley, both of Millboro; twelve grandchildren, Dylan, Heather, Melissa, Leeland, Josh, Nigel, Megan, Chelsie, Julie, Afton, Zackary and Aimee; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Gilbert of Connecticut; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Brinkley of Millboro.

She was preceded in death by a son, Elton Brinkley; a grandson, Julian Brinkley; and five brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Woodland Union Church with Pastor David George officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church.
