Obituary for Gene Carleton Duff Gene Carleton Duff
Former Mohawk Director Of Research Dies At Age 81

Gene Carleton Duff, 81, of Lexington, Virginia passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born January 11, 1939 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late William Henry Duff and Carmen Alford Duff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Lois Jennings Duff, and daughter, Conna Mira Duff.

He was a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church where he had served as elder and Sunday school teacher. Gene retired as head of research and development for Mohawk and after retirement was a consultant for Mohawk and Mannington Industries. He was also a member of the Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club and served on the Rockbridge/Lexington School Board. Gene was an avid farmer, enjoyed his work and loved his family.

Surviving are his wife, Arnetta Austin; daughter, Karen Alicia Duff; stepchildren, Sherry Huff (David), Dana Austin (Jun), and Richard Austin (Cheryl); siblings, Polina Bowers (Edgar), William Michael Duff, Brenda Varley, and Edward Duff (Betty Lou); six step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces/nephews; and caregivers Tiffany, Donna, Leigh, Shannon, Nikki, Diana, Amber, Loretta, Victoria, Melissa and Patsy.

A private family graveside service will be held at New Monmouth Presbyterian Cemetery with the Revs. Casey and Rachel Clark officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kerrs Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 2880 W. Midland Trail, Lexington, VA 24450 or New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, 2348 W. Midland Trail, Lexington, VA 24450.
