Obituary for Talmage Leon Claytor Sr. Talmage Leon Claytor Sr.
Buena Vista Resident Was Decorated World War II Veteran

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven; a time to be born and a time to die...

Talmage Leon Claytor Sr. of Buena Vista, Virginia was born on March 27, 1923 and returned to his eternal home on April 8, 2020, after celebrating his 97th birthday with love from near and far.

The son of Clarence and Blanche Claytor, he was the last remaining sibling of their eight children.

He was married to the love of his life, Marguerite, for almost 73 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Plott and granddaughter, Jill Bailey Chenet.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Barbara Bailey (Jack), T.L. Claytor (Doris) and son-in-law, Harold Plott; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Talmage, known to all as Dolly, served in World War II from 1943 to 1945 and participated in six European campaigns for which he was awarded the French Legion Medal of Honor and the bronze and silver stars.

He was a lifelong faithful member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church.

Besides his love of family, his passions were singing and gardening, and he sang in several gospel quartets which traveled around the state.

Much gratitude to Rockbridge Area Hospice and dear friends, Marjorie Austin, Tim and Lisa Knudson and all of the neighbors for their loving care and support.

Due to the current viral crisis, a private graveside service was held at Mount Zion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to Mount Zion Cemetery in care of Dan Shiley, 671 Dry Well Road, Natural Bridge, VA 24578.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
