Fairfield United Methodist Church Member For 70 Years Dies At Age 96

Anna Rowena Higgins Engleman of Fairfield, Virginia was born August 22, 1923 and died May 14, 2020.

She was the daughter of the late Lottie and Edd Higgins of Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Engleman; her three brothers, Leo Higgins of Staunton, Jimmie Higgins of Buena Vista, and Fremont Higgins of Lexington; her two sisters, Mary Ellen Hostetter and Dessie Hartbarger of Lexington; special niece, Judy Hostetter; brother-in-law, Claude Hartbarger; and sisters-in-law, Jane Higgins of Lexington and Ruby Higgins of Staunton.

She is survived by three children, Ruth Ann Taylor (Jim) of Rockbridge Baths, Debbie Poole (Darrell) of Fairfield, and Buddy Jr. Engleman of Greenville; three grandchildren, April Cline (Jason) of Fairfield, Darren Poole (Molly) of Brownsburg and Danielle Goldstein (Sam) of California; three great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jake Cline of Fairfield, Haley Cline and Nathan Dudley of Fairfield; and one great-great-grandchild, Addison Dudley; one sister-in-law, lsabell Higgins of Buena Vista survives, as well as a special niece and nephew, Ralph Hostetter (Donna), and other special nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Jody Poole; and many, many other special friends.

Retired from Premier, she was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years, a dedicated member of Fairfield United Methodist Church for over 70 years, Communion Steward for many years, and member of the United Methodist Women and fellowship Bible class.

"l loved my family and friends, enjoyed gardening, vegetables and flowers, sewing, cooking, and I loved to read, especially the Bible."

A private graveside service will be conducted at Fairfield Cemetery by the Rev. Valerie Ritter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101 or the Rockbridge Area Health Center, 25 Northridge Lane, Lexington, VA 24450.
