Former Vine Cottage Inn Housekeeper Dies At Age 88

Dicie Scott Trimble Griffin, 88, of Hot Springs, Virginia, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 at her residence.

She was born December 1, 1931 in Hot Springs, the daughter of the late Charles Arthur Trimble and Dicie Cornelia Patteson Trimble.

Mrs. Griffin was employed as a housekeeper for the Vine Cottage Inn; prior to that she was a housekeeper for several families within the community.

Dicie was a 1951 graduate of Valley High School. After graduation, she was proud to have worked as a telephone operator for the Virginia Hot Springs Inc.

She was a member of the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church where she served as the sexton.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

On June 24, 1954 she married Julian Bernard Griffin who preceded her in death in 2014.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by two children, Kathy Spurgeon and husband, Bobby of Hot Springs, Mark Griffin and wife, Andreé of Penn Laird, Virginia: a grandson, Corbin Spurgeon of Hot Springs; two brothers, Floyd Burton Trimble of Millboro, Virginia, David P. Trimble and wife, Lela of Elkton, Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Trimble of Stewartsville, Virginia.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles T. Trimble.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2020 at the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church with Reverend Scott Conrad and Reverend Reed Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, Carloover.

Pallbearers will be Rolf Brunner, Mike Spurgeon, Travis Kay, John McConnell, Bobby Bogan, Dr. Jim Redington and Corbin Spurgeon.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the church; or any time at her residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Presbyterian Church.

The McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
