Obituary for June Nelson Carter June Nelson Carter
Clifton Forge Native Was Claims Adjuster For C&O Hospital Association

June Nelson Carter, age 89, of 816 Jefferson Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at The Brian Center Nursing Care in Low Moor, Virginia.

Born February 25, 1931 in Clifton Forge, June was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Georgia King Nelson.

She attended the Jefferson Business School in Charlottesville and retired after 30 years as a Claims Adjuster for the Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital Association.

She was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, enjoyed playing bridge and canasta, and loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wright Carter in 2011; a son, Charles King "Kippy" Carter in 1975; three brothers, Harry K. Nelson, Darryl Nelson, and Harold Nelson; and two sisters, Claudine Shirk and Donna Persinger.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen A. and Karen H. Carter of Afton; three sisters, Lois Nicely of Clifton Forge, Barbara Evanko of Richmond, and Ann Hancock of Lenoir, NC; three grandchildren, Meredith Carter, Madison K. Carter, and Stephen C. Carter, all of Afton; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Tonya Madison.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Paul Brokaw officiating. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
