Obituary for Michael (Mike) W. Coss Michael (Mike) W. Coss
Fairfield Resident Was Air Force Veteran, Secret Service Employee

Michael (Mike) W. Coss, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at his home in Fairfield, Virginia on June 12, 2020.

He was 73.

Mike was born in Pensacola, Fla., on August 9, 1946. A veteran of Vietnam, he served four years in the U. S. Air Force, and afterwards entered the United States Secret Service.

In 1978, he married Patricia, and the couple settled in Falls Church while Mike continued his career. He worked in the Canine Explosive Detection Unit along with the world's greatest dog, Tony, the German shepherd. Mike would serve under six U.S. presidents, retiring in 1994 after 22 years.

After retirement, Mike settled in Rockbridge County where he worked first in the sheriff's office as a dispatcher, and later at Western State Hospital in Staunton.

Mike was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lexington, and served in the Knights of Columbus for many years. He is a past Grand Knight of Council #11557, and as a district deputy recently helped establish a new council in Covington and Clifton Forge.

Mike loved playing golf, was an avid fan of baseball and the Washington Nationals, enjoyed riding his mules, and especially valued spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; six sisters; six children, Christine, Michael, Nicky, Kelly, Billy and Ali; and 12 grandchildren.

Arrangements for the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and burial at Arlington National Cemetery are still to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to ComfortCare Women's Health or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, two causes very important to Mike.

Rest in peace. "Well done, my good and faithful servant … Come, share your master's joy." (Matthew 25:21).

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
