Obituary for Donald Richard (Doley) Floyd Sr. Donald Richard (Doley) Floyd Sr.
Buena Vista Resident Was Longtime VDOT Employee

Donald Richard (Doley) Floyd Sr. of Buena Vista, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at his home.

Doley was born May 4, 1935, the son of the late Robert William "Doley" Floyd and Winnie Thelma Rogers Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis William "Buddy" Floyd and sisters, Margie Ann Floyd McKee and June Elizabeth Floyd Cunningham.

Doley is remembered most for his devotion to his family, friends, and any task that he found to be his responsibility. His fortitude was first evident on the baseball field where he developed a love for the sport that lasted throughout his lifetime. He could often be found talking about the sport he loved and watching the game every available chance. He rarely missed an opportunity to watch his children and grandchildren on the field.

As a loyal employee, he retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 32 years of service.

While his loyalty as an athlete, fan, and employee is noteworthy, is it his devotion given to his family and friends that his legacy of love will remain.

Doley was married for 46 years and survived by his wife, Nitza Rogers Floyd; children, Cynthia "Cindy" Floyd Marshall (Dean), Jamie Green-Pruett (Chip), Donald Floyd Jr. (Emily), and Misty Floyd Snider (Jason); grandchildren, Kelsey, Hannah, Kallon, Kyle, Kendal, Aaron and Katy Belle; great-grandchildren, Brinlee and Nash (expected in November 2020); along with many nieces and nephews.

He held a special place with many children of family friends who knew him lovingly as Paw-Paw.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29 at Green Hill Cemetery with Pastor Butch Grow and Pastor Tommy Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Rockbridge Area Hospice.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
