Hot Springs Resident Dies At Age 95

Mr. Alvin Henry Peters, age 95, of Natural Well, Virginia died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at his residence.

He was the husband of the late Mary Sue McCallister Peters.

Mr. Peters was born October, 16, 1924 in Eagle Rock, Virginia, the son of the late Harry Glenn Peters and Elsie Mae Obenshein Peters.

Retiring in 1984, Mr. Peters worked for the CSX Railroad for 41 years.

He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church and of Skipwith U. M. C. in Richmond for 34 years.

Alvin enjoyed birds, working in his flower beds and watching westerns. He always wanted to learn something new and different each day.

Mr. Peters is survived by his daughter, Mary Kay Jensen and husband, Robin of Garner, NC.; son, Kim Daniel Peters and wife, Sheri of Richmond, VA.; grandchildren; Samantha Peters, Kayla Wright Query and Christie Wright; step-grandchildren, Jared Dickens, Amanda Dickens, Jamison Jensen and Jaque Whitehead; fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Peters is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Suzanne Peters; granddaughter, Jennifer Leanne Peters; step grandson, Jeremiah Jensen; one brother and four sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Andrew Baek officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service at the church.

Emory UMC requests that all attending use hand sanitizer, wear a mask and practice social distancing while on church premises.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 7119 Jackson River Road, Hot Springs, Va. 24445.
