Nelson Eddie Cason Sr., 80, of Lexington, Virginia died Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his home.

Born July 15, 1940 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Seldon Lang Cason and Cassie Garrison Cason.

He attended New Monmouth Presbyterian Church and retired from Virginia Military Institute.

Nelson loved to fish and tinker with cell phones and electronics.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn B. Cason; children, Sarah Funkhouser (Roger) of Glasgow and Nelson Eddie Cason Jr. of Waynesboro; three sisters, Jenny Melton, Kate Lawson and Charlotte Piercell; two grandchildren, Adam Funkhouser and Ashley Stong; two great-grandchildren, Oceana Funkhouser and Parson Stong; special friends, Gloria Hostetter and Joy Bowyer; and canine companions, Bullett and Jack.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Dean Staton. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. There will be no family night at the funeral home. Masks are mandatory and social distancing will be required. A special thanks to Rockbridge Area Hospice for all of their care.
