Former Clifton Forge Resident Dies At Age 63

Rembert Stephen (Steve) Hoke, 63, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2020 following a brief battle with cancer.

  Formerly a resident of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Steve and his family lived in Troutville, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kristie Claytor; a son, Michael Hoke (Amy) and daughter, McKayla Hoke. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittney Scott, Zachary and Morgan Hoke; sisters, Millie Collins (Pete), Sandy Ruffner, Gail Hostetter (Steve) and brother, Jesse Downey (Karen); sisters-in-law, Barbara Trail (Henry) and Rena Claytor; special nieces, Rana Claytor Buchanan and Jennifer Trail Gaddy, as well as a host of friends and family, will miss Steve and his never-ending antics.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Rembert Evans Hoke and Mary O'Neil Hartsook Hoke; sister, Mary Frances Castille and brother-in-law, Rick Claytor.

At Steve's request, no service will be held. The family extends a special "thank you" to Steve's caregivers during his 63-day stay at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit.

  Steve was an animal lover. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Roanoke SPCA Foster Program at 1340 Baldwin Ave. NE, Roanoke, VA 24012 or to a charity of your choice.
