Obituary for Margaret Armitta Walker Margaret Armitta Walker
Lexington Native Was Longtime Lylburn Downing High School Employee

Margaret Armitta Walker, 86, of Lexington, Virginia passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Margaret was born February 20, 1934 in Lexington, a daughter of the late Lewis Greene Sr. and Angeline Haliburton Greene.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin T. Walker Jr.; three brothers, Lewis Greene, Irvin Greene and Hayward Greene; and one sister, Maxine Craney.

Margaret graduated from Lylburn Downing High School in 1952. She became a full-time employee of Lylburn Downing High School as the school secretary and administrator, a job she retired from after over 30 years of service. She was a renaissance woman before it was popular.

Mrs. Walker was a member of the Eastern Star, Randolph Street United Methodist Church (RSUMC), United Methodist Women, and a committee member with RSUMC historical society.

Surviving are her son, Gerrold Walker I; a brother, Harris Greene; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
