Obituary for Gloria Mae Dressler Gloria Mae Dressler
MeadWestvaco Retiree Was Longtime Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Member

Gloria Mae Dressler, of Covington, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.

Gloria was born November 18, 1945 in Covington, the daughter of the late Arnold and Goldie Sponaugle Dressler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by special aunts and uncle, Hazel and Lloyd Armstrong; five uncles, three aunts, and several cousins and her beloved little dog, Gidget.

Gloria was a life-long resident of Covington. She was a graduate of Covington High School and a graduate of Clifton Forge Covington Alleghany Division of VPI.

Gloria Retired from MeadWestvaco in April 2009 as an administrative assistant for Product Development and Quality Assurance. After retirement Gloria worked at MeadWestvaco helping her previous job through the consulting firm CLEAR LLC. Gloria was a life-long member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where she especially liked serving on the Missions Committee.

Gloria enjoyed traveling, especially to the Outer Banks and Disney World. She had visited many areas all over the country. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and being with friends. She liked volunteering, especially at the Christmas Mother Shop.

Surviving are her fiancé, best friend and companion, Eugene Crowder of Covington; cousins, Betty Dempsey of Lewisburg, WV, Pearl Clarkson of Green Bank, WV, Jean Raupach of Berryville, Charlotte Cordier of Plano, TX and Frank Sponaugle Jr. of Covington. Special friends, Bonnie Gragg, Roger and Pat Amos, all of Covington; Marie Tyree of Fincastle, Barbara Helvey of Christiansburg, Buddy and Garcy Brown of Covington, Brenda Keaton of Richmond, Kathy Woodson of Clifton Forge, Wanda Broce of Mount Sidney, Irene and Steve Fitchett (daughters of Oona and Mina) Atlanta, Georgia, who were like her own family.

The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home Monday, August 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating assisted by the Rev. Bill Gilliland.

Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at Arritt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ms. Dressler's name to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Missions at 1200 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, VA 24426; or to The American Cancer Society at P. O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

The arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
