Obituary for James (Buck) Leslie McDaniel James (Buck) Leslie McDaniel
BARC Retiree Was Millboro Resident

James (Buck) Leslie McDaniel, 78 of Millboro, Virginia departed this life on August 28, 2020 with his wife and their three daughters at his side.

Buck was born in Alleghany County, Virginia on March 17, 1942, son of the late Gilbert Leslie and Betty Henson McDaniel.

He married Shirley Lyle Loan on September 20, 1967 at Windy Cove Presbyterian Church, Millboro Springs, Virginia.

An outdoor enthusiast, Buck had many hobbies and interests to include fishing, camping, gardening and hunting.

After retiring from the BARC in 2004, he rekindled his passion for golf, joining the Clifton Forge Country Club and winning his share of quarters from fellow members and friends. He loved working with his hands and spent hours carving walking sticks and canes out of dogwood for his family and friends. Never an idle person, he was always looking for things to do at home or for others.

Nothing was more important to Buck than his large, extended family. He was so proud of them all and was always available to help or support them in any way. He will be so greatly missed by those dear to him.

Buck is survived by his cherished wife, Shirley and three daughters: Sandra Loan Eutsler (husband, Clinton), Rebecca Loan Newton (husband, Jeffery), and Stephanie Loan Moore (widow of Allen Brooks Moore) and his sister, Shirley McDaniel Schick (husband, Jim).

He was predeceased by three of his siblings: Robert McDaniel, Gail McDaniel Myers, and Wanda McDaniel Hardee.

Other close surviving family includes: sisters-in-law, Barbara Howell (husband, Paul), Susan Livick (husband, Ray) and brother-in-law, Tom Durham; grandchildren: Clint A. Eutsler (wife, Cara), Martha Eutsler King (husband, Jonathan), Christopher Newton (wife, Ashley), James A. Moore, Jessica Newton Patterson (husband, Will), Sarah Newton, Emily Moore Rudin (husband, Scottie) Jennifer Moore (fiancé, Alex Carter); great grandchildren: Taylor Minter (fiancé, Schyler Smiley), Matthew Minter, Madison King, Skylar Moore, Michaela, Levi and Ben Newton, Gabrielle Rudin, Brycen Moore and Everly Carter. One great, great grandson, Parker Minter and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service and celebration of Buck's life will be held at a later date. Until then as Buck was known to say "FISH ON"!
