Obituary for Dr. Avtar Robert Moore Dr. Avtar Robert Moore
Lexington Doctor Once Set State Record In Pole Vaulting

Dr. Avtar Robert Moore, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2020.

He was born August 31, 1955 in Charlottesville to the late Olivia Moore and his still living father, Robert Moore Sr.

Avtar grew up in the family home, and attended the family church of New Monmouth Presbyterian. He attended school locally at Lexington High School where he attained a state record for pole vaulting before graduating in 1974. He went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina, and in 1999 he graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W.Va.

Following his residency, he returned to Lexington to open a very special private medical practice. Healing others was his true passion. He was dedicated to the healing art of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment and attained a unique level of skill that is not easily matched.

Avtar was a devoted father, and befriended many with the purity and kindness of his heart. Avtar was always one to promote cooperation and love as the truest path forward. His humility, sweetness, and youthful nature will be remembered.

Avtar is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mukanday, and their three children, Amrit, Gobind, and Savraj. His only sister, Maxine Jochum, has lived in Germany with her family for nearly 40 years.

There will be a Celebration of Life in early October. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that you make a donation to either the local NAACP or the Lexington Foundation. Avtar was very generous to charities that help others in need.
