Lewisburg Resident Dies At Age 99

Thelma Hutsenpiller Hoke Berkley, 99, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2020, surrounded by family at Peyton Hospice House.

She was born on August 18, 1921 in Lewisburg to the late Charles W. and Lillian Anderson Hutsenpiller.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, George F. Hoke and her second husband, Simeon R. Berkley,; grandson, Jeffrey Lee Berkley; step-daughter, Joy Jones, and step-son-in-law, Thomas Scarbro.

Survivors include her children, Constance "Connie" H. Reeves and husband, Elliott of Lewisburg, WV, Wayne F. Hoke and wife, Elaine of Berlin, MD; step-children, Jo Anne Scarbro of GA, S. Thomas Berkley and wife, Tomoyo of Everette, WA, Jeffrey A. Berkley and wife, Sue of Pulaski, VA; step-son-in-law, Larry Jones and wife, Janet of Elkview, WV; grandchildren, Brian Berkley and wife, Michelle, Weslea Ann Coles and husband, Vernell, Marea Clement and husband, Eric, Heather Dobson and husband, Tyler, Stacey Beard and husband, Scott, Sonja Rozaieski and husband, James, Andrew Berkley and wife, Jennifer; 16 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson.

Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She spent many years working and retired from C&P Telephone Company as Group Chief Operator, she was a member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church, the Lewisburg Women’'s Society of Christian Service, Greenbrier County CEOs, Lewisburg Lioness Club, Telephone Pioneers of West Virginia, and Greenbrier County Farm Bureau. She dedicated herself to her family and community.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg, on Thursday, September 24, 2020 with Rev. Bev Columbo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to either Peyton Hospice House at 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901 or Lewisburg United Methodist Church at 1133 East Washington Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901.

The Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
