Clifton Forge Native Worked With Grand Home Furnishings; Was Longtime Mallow Presbyterian Church Member

Mrs. Betty Lou Greene Lockard, age 89, of Crozet, Virginia died Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at English Meadows, Crozet.

She was the wife of the late Walter Scott "Sonny" Lockard, Jr.

Mrs. Lockard was born April 20, 1931 in Clifton Forge, the daughter of the late George B. Greene and Hilda Windsor Greene Clark.

She was employed as a credit manager by Grand Home Furnishings in Covington before her retirement.

Betty was a longtime member of Mallow Presbyterian Church as well as a member of the Daylight Circle at the church. Also, Mrs. Lockard was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Her love of cooking and trying new recipes were always enjoyed by her family and friends.

Throughout their marriage, she and her husband shared their love of Christmas and created many traditions that will be carried forward by their family. Betty enjoyed playing bridge with many of her friends.

Mrs. Lockard is survived by her daughter, Deborah Scott Lockard Childs and husband, Kenneth of Crozet; her son-in-law, Ben Truett of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Kenneth Scott Childs and wife, Tara Matsushima Childs of Mechanicsville and Joseph McCullen Truett and wife, Mariana Araujo of Charlottesville; two great grandchildren, Owen Parker Childs and Delaney Ann Childs of Mechanicsville; and lifelong friends who were more like sisters, Pauline Harrison, Shirley Holley and Francelia Cox.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lockard was preceded in death by her daughter, Shawn Lanette Lockard Truett,; her brother, Stephen Greene; and her stepfather, Clayton H. Clark.

Because of Covid 19 and the family's desire to protect friends and relatives, a private service will be held.

In lieu of flowers or memorials and to honor her life, the family asks that you reach out to someone in an assisted living facility or nursing home to bring them love and hope.
