Former Rubber Plant Employee Was First Baptist Church Of Iron Gate Member

William Harvey (Billy) Johnson, Sr., age 94, of 201 Commerce Avenue, Iron Gate, Virginia died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at his residence.

Billy was born May 26, 1926 in Iron Gate to the late Edward McKinley Johnson and Lizzie Chambers Johnson.

He was a laborer for the rubber plant in Iron Gate and a member of First Baptist Church of Iron Gate. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking. He never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Thomas "Dot" Johnson; a sister, Virginia Elizabeth Ray; and three brothers, Carl T. "Tenny" Johnson, Edward "Joc" Johnson and Robert Henry "Bob" Johnson, Sr.

He is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Hunter of Covington, Brenda Waldron of Radford, Karen Allen and husband, Attell of Richmond and Lynne Fay Johnson of Iron Gate; three sons, Harvey Johnson, Jr. of Roanoke, Kenny Johnson and wife, Sharon of Covington and Jerome Johnson, Sr. of Covington; twelve grandchildren, including the two grandchildren that he helped raise, Shannon Johnson and Tiffany Johnson; 27 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Steve and Becky Vess.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Greg Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. There will be no formal visitation. However, friends may visit anytime on Friday, November 27th at Nicely Funeral Home. Due to COVID 19 concerns, those attending are asked to observe strict social distancing guidelines.
