Heavy Equipment Operator Was Westvaco Retiree

Raymond (Ray) Elmore Godsey Jr., 73, formerly of Halterman Hollow in Monterey, Virginia passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Monterey.

He was born January 8, 1947 in Richmond, the only child to the late Pearl (Taylor) and Raymond Elmore Godsey.

On January 2, 1967, he married Linda Ann Lovett.

A heavy equipment operator, Ray retired from Westvaco at Forks of the Water.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles and his milk cows and pigs. Above all, Ray was a loving husband, caring father, and absolutely cherished time spent with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Linda Godsey of 51 years, on November 25, 2018.

Ray is survived by his children, Raymond "Buckie" E. Godsey III of Mathews and his family, Raymond E. Godsey IV and Molly Godsey; Linda Neave and husband, Barry of Monterey and her family, Robin, Jessica and Hunter Kellum, Ryan and Harold Skelton, Gavin, Violet and Piper Neave; Tim Lovett and wife, Tracy of Front Royal and his family, Tiffany, T.J. and Stella Wirfs, Trisha Lovett, Macie and Hudson Morningstar, Tori, Colby and Maddie Pamplin; as well as special friends, Olin and Judy Waybright, Sandie Hockman and Kevin Goodbar and family.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the newly established Godsey Family Cemetery on their property on Halterman Hollow Lane, with the Pastor Chip Hill officiating.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Robin Kellum, Raymond Godsey IV, Ryan and Harold Skelton and Gavin Neave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Highland County Humane Society, P. O. Box 458, Monterey, Va. 24465.

The Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
