Former Alleghany Regional Hospital Respiratory Therapist Dies At Age 92

Virginia Mae Stone Hosey Long Lawler, age 92, of 200 Comer Lane Lot #5, Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at her residence.

She was born November 29, 1929 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia to the late Ned Wilby Stone and Evelyn Mae Carter Stone.

She was a retired Respiratory Therapist for the former Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Covington.

She loved her church, her children, flowers, gardening, and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus H. Lawler, Jr., and five sisters, Carol Fabria, Joan Vess, Louise Frances Stone, Helen Rosetta Showman, and Mary Ellen Quick.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Jean Chesnut of Covington and Linda Sue Kennedy and husband, Lonnie of Lake City, TN; a son, Bobby Joe Hosey and wife, Laurie of Covington; two step daughters, Stephanie Schuler of Pennsylvania and Jeanette Lawler of Boones Mill; a step son, Chip Lawler and wife, Kim of Florida; two sisters, Bonnie Sue Paxton of Covington and Peggy Ann Carter of Marion; four brothers, Billy Joe Stone of Lynchburg, Charles Henry Stone of Clifton Forge, James Wilby Stone of Indiana, and Thomas Lewis Stone of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Faye O'Conner, Davey Helmintoller, and John Carter; two step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Barry Daniel and Mr. James "Jimmie" Long officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. There will be no formal visitation. Friends may call any time at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to New Hope Baptist Church, 1402 S. Dee Ave., Covington, VA 24426.
