Rockbridge County Native Dies At Age 89

Virginia Coleman (Jean) Black, 89, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Kendal.

Born December 17, 1931 in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of the late James Wilson Clark and Minnie Siron Clark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Black.

Jean was a member of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church.

She loved gardening, canning and volunteering at Effinger Volunteer Fire Department. Family was the love and joy of her life.

Surviving are her children, S. Lynne Black and Edward "Eddie" Black; one grandson, Justin Edward Jarvis (Heidi); one great-grandchild, Emma Lynne Jarvis; and special K9's Sadie and Jack. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, December 23 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Effinger Volunteer Fire Department, 2824 Collierstown Road, Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
