Obituary for Clyde Keith Chittum Clyde Keith Chittum
Clifton Forge Native Was World War II, Korea Veteran; Longtime Lexington Baptist Church Member

Clyde Keith Chittum, 95, of Lexington, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 18, 2020 at his home.

Born November 19, 1925 in Clifton Forge, he was a son of the late Clyde B. Chittum and Sarah M. Agnor Chittum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Pauline Bennington (Polly) Chittum; sister, Fay Rudolph; and brother, Paul Chittum.

Keith enlisted into the U. S. Army in May 1946 and served in Germany during World War II, came home and enlisted in the Reserve Corps. He married Polly in June of 1950 and was sent to Korea in October 1950.

Returning home in October of 1951, Keith returned to James Lee/Burlington Industries where he was employed before his service to his country. He retired in 1988 after 40 years and he continued to farm until his death.

He was a faithful member of the Lexington Baptist Church for 60 years where he served as needed.

Surviving are his children, Myrna Johnston and husband, Wayne, and David Keith Chittum; two grandchildren, Jonathan Johnston, and David Johnston and his wife, Amber; one great-grandchild, Elias; brother, Kenton Chittum of Abington; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 26 at Kerrs Creek Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. George Warden officiating. All are welcome, but please social distance and use your mask.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Lexington Baptist Church, 75 Old Farm Road, Lexington, VA 24450, or Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450. Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
