Clifton Forge Resident Was Temple Baptist Church Member, Well-Known Volunteer

Rosemary Christine Barger Newcomb, age 79, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 16, 1941 to the late Ray and Mary Olivia Barger.

She was a lady of great faith and a member of Temple Baptist Church of Covington.

Rosemary and Otmer shared their love of crafting through Newcomb's Notions and volunteering their services at Alleghany Regional Hospital. She pioneered the Little League Girls softball program in Clifton Forge, Virginia in the late 80s.

Rosemary had a passion for gardening and irises, loved cardinals, cats, pepperoni pizza, and quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Otmer McCullough Newcomb.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Sizemore and husband, Steve and Sherry Ayers, both of Covington; a son, Richard Newcomb and wife, Phyllis of Chesterfield; a brother, Haynes Barger and wife, Ruth; four grandchildren, Heather Eggleston and husband, Jody, Ashley Forbes and husband, Brandon, Brandon Sizemore, Dusty Kidd and wife, Jan; six great grandchildren, Chloe and Kinley Eggleston, Kylie, Grace and Kaelyn Forbes, and Preston Kidd; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, Covington, with Reverend Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Social distancing practices will be in place for family and friends to attend the service.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for all of the love and support shown during this time and would like to especially thank all who were involved with her care from Bath County Community Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
