Obituary for Dorothy Coe (Dot) Foster Dorothy Coe (Dot) Foster
Former Medical Laboratory Technician Worked With Two Local Hospitals

Dorothy Coe (Dot) Foster, 96, a Clifton Forge, Virginia native and life-long resident, was welcomed with open arms by her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her home on McCormick Boulevard.

Dot was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, on October 25, 1924 to the late Lewis and Merle Foster.

The couple raised Dot and her sister, Eloise in Clifton Forge. Mr. Foster was a prominent merchant in Clifton Forge, where he owned and operated Fosters Ladies & Children's Wear. The family was very active in the Central United Methodist Church. They commissioned the iconic steeple bells for the church, which can be heard throughout the downtown area each hour.

In 1941, Dot graduated from Clifton Forge High School. She then attended Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Virginia and went onto obtain her certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician. After school she worked for Dr. Huff in his private medical practice serving the residents of Clifton Forge. She then went onto work at the C & O Hospital and later Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital as a lab technician until 1991.

After her retirement Dot turned her focus toward her family, travel and her beloved toy poodles. Holidays, birthdays and as much time as possible was spent with family, which always included her sister and extended relations.

Dot is survived by her great niece, Ashley Cameron and husband, B.J. of Morristown, TN; her great niece, Lauren McCall and her husband, Casey of Aiken, SC; her great nephew, Kemp Lambert of Greensboro, NC; three great-great nephews, Dayton Short, Trae Cameron and Landon Cameron of Morristown, TN; her niece-in-law, Carolyn Humphries of Morristown, TN and her nephew-in-law, Pharis Lambert of Durham, NC.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Eloise Foster Humphries of Greensboro, NC,; niece, Hope H. Lambert of Durham, NC, and her nephew, Lewis Coe Humphries or Morristown, TN.

The funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Long-time family friend, Reverend Pembroke "Pem" Hall will officiate. Dot will then be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge, in the Foster family plot alongside her beloved father, mother and sister. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. Friends may visit any time during business hours at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Janie Lawhorn, Kay Nichols, Pat Connor, Carissa Higgins, Caitlyn Angle, Alice Carroll, Sarah Boguess, Casey Brewster, Lisa Persinger, Mary Ann Carroll and Jeanette Angle for the attentive and loving care of Dot and her sister, Eloise in their final years.
