Retired Hills And Dales Estate Grounds Superintendent Dies At Age 89

Donald Rudolph Muller, 89, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 at The Mayflower in Lexington.

Don was born July 23, 1931 in Palisades Park, N.J. to Rudolph Herman Muller and Dorothy Hancock Muller.

Don graduated from Teaneck High School in Teaneck, N.J. in 1949. He earned a BS in horticulture from Iowa State University in 1954 and was a member of the Alpha Tau Fraternity. Later in life he received an MS in library science from Atlanta University.

After serving in the U. S. Army and holding various jobs, Don was offered the opportunity to follow his passion for horticulture as the grounds superintendent of Ferrell Gardens on the Fuller E. Callaway Estate in LaGrange, Ga. Don retired after 25 years from what is now known as Hills & Dales Estate.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dorothy "Pinkie" Muller and Nancy Ann Robeson.

Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn R. Muller; daughter, Ruth Ann Hildreth (Steve) of Lexington; son, Kevin Muller (Emily) of Huntersville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Sarah Hildreth, and Lola and Lucas Muller; nephews, Scott Robeson, Bryan Robeson and family; and niece, Kim Robeson-Rodgers and family.

There will be no funeral services at this time and interment of ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.
