Former Hot Springs Resident Was "Go To Guy" For Horse-Related Subjects

Larson Wayne Hooker, 83, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Sovah Health, Martinsville, Virginia.

He was born August 29, 1937 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the son of the late George Washington Hooker and Lillian Gertrude Landrum Hooker.

Early in his life he owned and operated his own logging business. He was the manager of the Homestead Stables. After retirement he worked for Dabney Pasco as the farm manager.

Mr. Hooker loved horses…they were his life. He enjoyed going to horse shows and horse sales. He was the "go to guy" for anyone's questions regarding anything about horses.

Mr. Hooker was quiet a storyteller to anyone who would sit and listen to him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna Louise Grimes Hooker of Hot Springs; five children, Susan Gwin, Mike Hooker and Sandi, Debbie Ryder and Barry, Ricky Hooker and April, Jimmy Hooker and Mindy, all of Hot Springs, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Katie, Danny, Jesse, Jamie, Tye, Luke, Carter, Aubryn; a sister, Lorraine Cooke of Baltimore, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Herman, George "Dink" Hooker; sisters, Beulah Steele, Bertha Kenley, Lillian Slayter.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the Union Chapel Cemetery with Donald Lee Altizer officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
