Former Buena Vista Resident Was Longtime Teacher, Tennis Coach

Chris Daniel Hylton, 66, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at home with his family by his side.

He was born October 3, 1954 in Buena Vista, the son of Walter and Julia Hylton.

He was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School.

Mr. Hylton was a teacher at Stafford High School for 35 years and managed to make government class fun and engaging for his students. He was also the tennis coach and could always be found wearing his favorite blue and gold beanie as he cheered on his team.

He was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church for almost 40 years, taught Sunday school, and was a deacon. He loved to volunteer to better his church and community. He also loved jokes and will be remembered for his sense of humor and laughter.

Mr. Hylton also enjoyed volunteering at Lee's Hill Golf Course and playing golf with his friends during his retirement years.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail Hylton; his children, Shanna and Josh; two grandchildren; and sister Judy Lawhorne of Lexington.

A livestream service was available on Fredericksburg Baptist Church's website on January 15.
