Longtime Independent Rockbridge Car Dealer Dies At Age 74

Carl Edward (Eddie) Higgins, 74, of Lexington, Virginia, passed to eternal rest Friday, January 15, 2021 at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital.

He was born April 10, 1946 in Lexington, a son of the late Brownie McDowell Higgins and Anna Ayers Higgins.

Eddie was an independent car dealer for 46 years, serving Rockbridge, and ran Super Wheels Cars & Trucks with his son by his side.

He was known for being a generous man with a big heart and stunning personality who never failed to make someone smile. Eddie was a pro stock drag racing champion for many years. He loved fast cars, music, gambling and spending time with his friends and family. Eddie cherished his family.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Harry McDowell "Buck" Higgins, Charles Melvin Higgins and Kenny Higgins; and sister, Olive Ruth Horne.

Surviving Eddie are the loves of his life, Joy Swartz; his children, Pamela Jane Higgins (Owens), Carrie Elizabeth Dennett (Craig), Carl Edward Higgins Jr. (Jennifer), and Sarah Janelle Higgins; sister, Mary Ann Ramsey; brother, Clifford Higgins; nine grandchildren, Amber, Miranda, Brooke, Madison, Addison, Justin, Colin, Jackson, and Lennon; and one great-grandchild, Rayson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 19 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Michael Hamilton officiating. Masks and social distancing are required.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Blue Ridge Multiple Sclerosis Chapter, 1020 Carrington Place, Suite 100, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or any charity of your choice.
