Obituary for Roger Wayne Ogden Roger Wayne Ogden
Covington Resident Was Vietnam War Veteran, MeadWestvaco Retiree

Roger Wayne Ogden, 74, of 2205 Dressler Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

Mr. Ogden was born April 9, 1946 in Covington, a son of the late Howard Raymond Ogden, Sr. and Hazel Stinnett Ogden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard R. "Bill" Ogden, Jr.; one sister, Pauline Claytor; and a niece, Denise Gravely; nephew, Richard Claytor and a nephew-in-law, Steve Hoke.

Wayne was a veteran of the Vietnam War holding the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army while serving in Germany and Greece.

He attended North Carolina State University and graduated from VWCC and Virginia Tech while achieving his bachelor's and master's degree.

In the earlier years, he worked for VDOT and the Covington City School System. He retired in 2005 from MeadWestvaco as a Senior Chemist.

He was a Life Member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Covington American Legion Post 4. He was a longtime member of Edgemont Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Dreama Loudermilk Ogden of Covington; several nieces and nephews, including Barbara Trail and her husband, Henry, Kristie Claytor, Michael Ogden and his wife, Diane, Randy Ogden, and a niece-in-law, Rena Claytor.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Jim Ballou and staff for the excellent care.

In keeping with the current Covid-19 pandemic guidelines, you are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times while attending the service. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the funeral home prior to the service to view/sign the book.

The funeral service will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating.

Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Edgemont Presbyterian Church, 2306 S. Church Street, Covington, VA 24426.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
