Lexington Native Was Lexington Baptist Church Member

Margaret Staton Moore, 90, of Lexington, Virginia, went to her heavenly home on Friday, January 15, 2021.

Born May 12, 1930 in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Uriah Staton and Violet Howell Staton, the fifth child in a family of nine children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bernard Joseph Moore Sr.; grandson Joshua Back; three sisters, Alice Moore, Doris Camden and Ailee Dale; and two brothers, Buddy and Charles Staton.

Margaret was a member of Lexington Baptist Church, and retired from Burlington Industries.

She loved singing and playing her guitar and autoharp. She wrote many songs, one of which was recorded on a gospel album. She also wrote a book about her life.

She is survived by her three children, Bernard Joseph "Jody" Moore Jr. (Linda), Sandra M. Clark (Tony), and Ellen M. Back, (Philip); nine grandchildren, Kevin Moore, Michelle Trout, Emily Higgins, Tonia Watterson, Melanie Underwood, Tony Wayne Clark, Mike Mohler, Eric Mohler and Makayla Back; 17 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Madisyn, Kraig, Kelsey, Brandi, Trey, Cierra, Katie, Carlie, Bryton, Briar, Levi, Quentin, Brook, Bryan, Landen and Jaxon; sister, Shirley Camden; and brother, James Staton.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. January 20 at Green Hill Cemetery with the the Rev. Michael Saunders officiating. Mask and social distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lexington Baptist Church, 75 Old Farm Road, Lexington, VA 24450.
