U. S. Army Veteran Was Longtime Kroger Meatcutter

Hugh Dillard Barnwell III, 91, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, entered his eternal home with his Savior and loving wife, Stella of 64 years on January 23, 2021.

He was born on July 29, 1929 in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

Hugh was a veteran of the U. S. Army as a high-speed radio operator stationed in Germany while serving. He retired as a meat cutter from Kroger after 40 years.

Fondly known as Barney, Hughbird, and Hubert to many who loved him, Hugh found his joy in family and church family.

Hugh was a faithful member of Greenbrier Regular Baptist Church for over 50 years, until he found his home at The Redemption Center, where he was a pillar of faith to those around him. Hugh was a Christian man who loved the Lord, served with his whole heart, and a witness in the community.

Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, Carmen Hylton and Hugh D. Barnwell II.

He is survived by daughter, Betsy Wiles (Demian) of Ronceverte, WV and son, Steve Barnwell (Laura) of Lynchburg, VA; granddaughters, Chelsea and Briana Barnwell of Lynchburg, VA and a special granddaughter, Stacey O’'Dell (Mitchell), whom he shared his home with for the past six years; grandsons, Parker Barnwell, Aidan Wiles, and Nathan Stover. Great grandchildren, Kaylee, Owyn, and Wesley O'Dell.

Services will be held at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, WV on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. The family will receive guests for visitation at 12 p.m. Following will be the funeral at 1 p.m. Officiating the service, will be his pastor, Reverend Garrett Bostic.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Redemption Center, P. O. Box 731, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.

We will be following COVID-19 regulations and require all guests wear a mask and be mindful of social distancing.
