"Strum Sum Band Organizer" Also Served As C&O Historical Society Tour Guide

Thomas William Hefner, 74, of Lewisburg, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 at his home in Lewisburg surrounded by his family.

Born October 27, 1946 at the family home in Renick, WV, he was a son of the late William Roy Hefner, Jr. and the late Margaret Ann Whiting Hefner.

Mr. Hefner was a member and an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of White Sulphur Springs.

He was a retired automotive engineer, was an APO Futurity Life Member, was a Major in the Virginia Defense Force, was a Boy Scout Leader, was on the board at Shepherds Center, and loved working as a tour guide at the C & O Historical Society in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

He was instrumental in organizing the "Strum Sum Band," playing gigs all over the area.

Thomas was a graduate of White Sulphur Springs High School class of 1964, and graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1969.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth McGuire Hefner; a daughter, Christine Hefner Guinn and husband, Brian of Lewisburg; a son, Robert Douglas Hefner and wife, Natalie of Culpeper, VA; grandchildren, Nicholas Jackson Hefner, Christian Thomas Hefner, Anna Elizabeth Hefner and Nicole Guinn Lee, all of Culpeper, VA; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Peter Lewis and Emma Beau Lee; one sister, Karen Hefner Montgomery and husband, Scott of Salem, VA and a niece, Amber Montgomery of Blacksburg, VA.

Per his wishes, Mr. Hefner will be cremated and due to Covid-19 a memorial service will take place at a later date to be determined.
