Obituary for Madeline Craft Nicely Madeline Craft Nicely
Registered Nurse Worked With C&O, Alleghany Regional Hospitals

Madeline Craft Nicely, 95, left this world to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 25, 2021.

She was born June 27, 1925 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Phillip Jackson and Gladys Via Craft.

Madeline was a registered nurse, having graduated from Roanoke Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She worked at both the C&O Hospital and Alleghany Regional Hospital, having served in various nursing roles and departments.

Madeline was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church of Clifton Forge, baptized and joined in 1936. She taught Sunday School, served on the administrative board and the board of Trustees, she sang in the church choir as well as serving as the chair of the flower committee. She was a member and past president of the Twilight Garden Club, a lifetime member of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, belonged to the Clifton Forge Woman's Club, and enjoyed playing bridge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Nicely, in 1989; and a sister, Jean Craft Armentrout in 2001.

Survivors include her daughter, Cela Nicely Callaghan and husband, Tom of Yorktown Virginia; son, Kent Nicely and wife, Karen of Glen Allen, Virginia; sister, Doris C. Pugh of Christiansburg, Virginia; brother-in-law, Joe R. Armentrout of Fishersville; two grandsons, Adam Callaghan and wife, Jennifer of Salem, and Aubrey Nicely of Glen Allen; one granddaughter, Kendall Nicely of Glen Allen; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Callaghan of Salem. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will be present from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Turner and Harvey Drewry.
