Obituary for Rose Marie Smith Swearengin Rose Marie Smith Swearengin
Former Homestead Security Department Employee Was Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church Member

Rose Marie Smith Swearengin, age 82, of 28 Smith Hollow Road, Hot Springs, Virginia died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at her residence.

She was born November 7, 1938 in Bath County, Virginia to the late Edward Scott Smith and Bessie Jane Samples Smith.

She worked in the security department of The Omni Homestead Resort and was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Clark Smith.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Swearengin and wife, Denise of Covington; two daughters, Linda Bailey and John McConnell of Hot Springs and Kathy Hall and husband, Burrell of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Dot Lowry and husband, Kirk, Arlene Peery and husband, Wayne, and JoAnn Miller and husband, Irvin, all of Hot Springs; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hutton of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Reid Hall, Rachel Hall, Robert Hall, Andrew McConnell, and Colton Swearengin; two granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, Hot Springs, with Pastor Donald Lee Altizer officiating.

Interment will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery, Carloover, Bath County. Pallbearers will be Reid Hall, Robert Hall, Andrew McConnell, Colton Swearengin, Mike Peery, Jeff Lowry, Jamie Lowry, David Miller and Tim Peery. Due to current health restrictions, the family asks that masks are worn and social distancing guidelines are followed.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Union Chapel Cemetery, C/O Wayne Peery, 533 Peery Hollow Road, Hot Springs, VA 24445.
