Obituary for Brian Harold Fredricksen Brian Harold Fredricksen
Rockbridge County Entrepreneur Dies At Age 76

Surrounded by his wife and two daughters, Brian Harold Fredricksen of Lexington, Virginia, went to be with our heavenly Father on January 20, 2021, just 10 days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Brian was born on December 12, 1944 in Harrisburg, Pa., to Harriet Fredricksen and Cleve J. Fredricksen, both first generation immigrants from Norway. Brian spent his early childhood in Camp Hill, Pa.

As a teen he attended Judson School in Scottsdale, Ariz., and went to college at the University of Arizona. He served three years in the army in Germany as a military police officer and trained Sentry dogs.

In 1970, Brian married Doris Wolgemuth of Lancaster County, Pa. They moved to Virginia in 1971, living in Roanoke, Troutville and finally landing in Rockbridge County in 1974 where they would spend the rest of their lives.

Brian was the consummate entrepreneur, founding several businesses throughout his life, including Fredricksen Associates, an employment agency in Roanoke; Summerdale Farm, a quarter horse breeding farm in Fairfield; and Route 60 Auto Sales and Rental in Lexington. His last adventure was purchasing land in Fairfield and developing Fairfield Square, which included Franks Pizza, a car wash, storage units and a laundromat (now Country Cuts).

His greatest accomplishment in life was being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His passions were riding cutting horses, boating, and sharing his love and kindness with people. He made everyone's day brighter with his bountiful sense of humor, his bellowing voice, and his ever-present laughter. Brian loved living in Rockbridge County and loved his relationships with both his longtime friends and people he only knew for a short while. No one was a stranger.

He was married for 50 years and is survived by his wife, Doris Fredricksen; and daughters, Jennifer Joy Cassell (Steve) of Bethesda, Md., and Erica Joy Vaughan (Rodney) of Gainesville. He adored his grandchildren, Owen William Cassell, Savannah Joy Vaughan and Leah Joy Vaughan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cleve L. Fredricksen and Thomas M. Fredricksen, and his grandson Jacob Brian Cassell, who was his namesake.

In the days before Brian's passing, he was comforted by the wonderful staff of Hospice. Therefore, in lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to Rockbridge Area Hospice in his memory.
