Charles Lewis (C.L.) Simmons, age 90, of 104 Ross Lane, Clifton Forge, Virginia departed this life on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home.

Born on December 16, 1930 in Iron Gate, Virginia, Charles was a son of the late Abraham and Gertrude Simmons.

He graduated from Eagle Rock High School, served in the United States Army, and retired from the Clifton Forge-Waynesboro Telephone Company after 44 years of service.

He was a husband, father, and grandfather who was dearly loved by his family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed being a farmer, a carpenter, and playing his guitar. Some of his best memories were of going horseback riding and hunting with his dear friends in the mountains. He was a member of The First Assembly of God Church in Clifton Forge for many years. He always enjoyed helping those in need.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Simmons and Charles A. "Ikey" Simmons; seven sisters, Hazel Piscunare, Dorothy Myers, Patricia Griner, Mary Capalby, Frances Bober, Bernice Deisher, and Phyllis Huffman; and two brothers, Homer Simmons and Abraham Jonathan "A.J." Simmons.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Miller Simmons of Clifton Forge; one son, Pat "Chicken Wing" Simmons of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Rachel Simmons and Aaron Simmons of Millboro; two brothers, Donald Simmons and wife, Robin of Eagle Rock and Bobby D. Simmons and wife, Linda of Covington; one sister, Alice Wilkinson of Lynchburg; two special nephews, Mike Simmons and Aaron Simmons, both of Clifton Forge; an adopted granddaughter, Amy Young of Eagle Rock; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. Due to the pandemic, a virtual memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. from the First Assembly of God Church, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Teddy Joe Bias officiating.
