Buchanan Native Was Longtime Covington Carpenter, Builder

Russell Frank Edwards of 1901 Mallow Road, Covington, Virginia, left this earth to begin his journey with the Lord in Heaven on January 28, 2021. He died peacefully in his home with family by his side.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Falls Edwards; two daughters, Deborah Kidd and fiancé, J. B. Harlow and Tina Edwards, all of Covington; five grandsons, David Easton Jr. and Aubri Workman, Daniel Easton and wife, Tonya, Jake Horne, Rubin Garza and Corey Edwards; four great grandchildren, Zoey Easton, Willow Easton, Parker Easton, and Lucas Easton; two sisters, Jeanie Jerman and Dorothy Johnson, and a number of nieces and nephews to include a special niece, Sue Woodruff.

Mr. Edwards was born October 13, 1936 in Buchanan, a son of the late Gordon and Minnie Smith Edwards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only son, Gordon Frank Edwards; two sisters, Jean Grogan and Cleo Cash; three brothers, Carl Smith, Bobby Smith and Elbert Smith.

Mr. Edwards started his career at a young age with Burdette Rupert and years later went to work with Vaughn Roberts and Glad Thompson. The three built many beautiful homes around the area. After Mr. Roberts retired, Russell then went to work for Byer, Harmon, and Johnson where he retired years later.

After his retirement, he spent a lot of time at home with his wife and family. He was a good man and never met a stranger and he was much loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed keeping his home and yard looking good and helping anyone that asked with carpentry work. He enjoyed talking with his family and friends about the old times.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum at Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Noel officiating.

Entombment will follow the service on Wednesday.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Arritt funeral home.
