Buena Vista Resident Was Army Veteran, Former Rea Manete Wire, City Of Buena Vista Employee

Jerry Bryant Mays Sr., 76, of Buena Vista, Virginia, loving father, grandfather and husband, went home to his heavenly home Friday, January 29, 2021.

Born in Rockbridge County on October 20, 1944, he was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Ester Mays, and his sister, Donna Reid.

In his early years, he worked in construction and sometimes with his father and some farm work. He served two years in the U. S. Army and after that he worked at Rea Magnet Wire and finished his career at the City of Buena Vista, where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 2006.

Jerry made many friends over the years because he was a kind and gentle man who would do anything for anybody. He enjoyed his retirement going on the mountain land with Pat, his kids, brothers and sisters and his many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patricia Gaye Mays; his sons, Greg and Jerry; his daughters, Cheryl (Troy), Alishia (Chason), and Summer; grandchildren, Brittany, Katilyn, Logan, McKenna, Kelsey, Chason, Kadee, Jackson, Layla, Claire and Jerry III; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Aspen, Adeline; honorary grandchild, Cade; loving sisters, Polly, Lois and Judy; brothers, Dave (Glenda) and Frank (Della); numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Eddie Jones, Lucky Clark, Chris and Jeremy Pooley, Christie Beverley and many others too numerous to mention.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Green Hill Mausoleum by the Rev. Jay Thorne.

Masks and social distancing are required.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
