Longtime McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church Member Was Jewelry Stores Employee

Mrs. Sadie Sovereen Landis, age 95, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was the wife of the late Clyde Howard Landis, Sr. whom she was married to for sixty-nine years.

Mrs. Landis was born October 4, 1925 in Blue Rock, WV, the daughter of the late Lorenzo N. Sovereen and the late Leona Mae Curtright Sovereen.

During her working career, she was employed by both Finks Jewelry Store as well as Glassners Jewelry Store for a total of forty years before her retirement.

A longtime and active member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Landis was a member of Circle #2 and the Littlepage Sunday school class. Sadie also taught Sunday school at the church and received the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Award in 2008.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, watching game shows and most of all, loved to travel with her beloved husband, Clyde, Sr.

Mrs. Landis is survived by a son, Clyde H. Landis, Jr. of Covington; two sisters, Phyllis Pulley of Covington and Bonnie S. Grimes of Covington; a brother, Monzel Sovereen of Covington; two nieces, Chanda Grimes Cook and husband, Todd and Kerri Dee Pulley; and two nephews, Donnie Grimes, Jr. and Darrell Pulley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Landis was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Sovereen.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jim Moss officiating.

Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
