Iron Gate Native Was Longtime U. S. Postal Service Employee

Elizabeth Douglas (Pete) Kidd Wilcher Obenshain, age 87, of 801 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia and formerly of Iron Gate, died Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Brian Center Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Low Moor.

She was born January 20, 1934 in Iron Gate to the late Jesse Stonewall Jackson Kidd and Bessie Lee Tyree Kidd.

She worked in the United States Post Office for 25 years: serving as postmaster in Iron Gate at her retirement, and had served as a clerk and as OIC in Iron Gate, Selma, and Low Moor.

She was a lifelong member of Iron Gate Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed music and singing, especially Willy Nelson and gospel music. She also enjoyed watching game shows and daytime soaps, watching John Wayne and Hallmark movies, sewing, crochet, reading, and collecting butterfly jewelry and decorative items. Her legacy to her family is her deep generosity, her creativity, and her tenacity.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband, Howard D. Wilcher and second husband, Ernest Obenshain; two brothers, Stuart Eugene Kidd and Jesse "Budd" Kidd; and three sisters, Etsel "Midge" Kidd Hughes, Margaret "Pat" Mays, and Katherine Kidd Taylor.

She is survived by two daughters, Sara Wilcher Zeek and husband, John of Clifton Forge and Janet Leigh Wilcher and husband, James Davis of Bonsack; two grandchildren, Jenny Zeek of Clifton Forge and Thomas Howard Zeek and wife, Brigette of Las Vegas, NV; three great grandchildren, Merridith Schmeidler of Clifton Forge, and Liam John Zeek and Lola Jane Zeek, both of Las Vegas, NV; two step daughters, Cynthia Reinhart and husband, Brian, and Victoria Darby; a step son, Jon Obenshain and wife, Michelle; a special step-nephew, Doug Hill and wife, Lisa; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; special friends, Barbara Vest, Becky Pendleton, and Charles Cowley; and her caregivers, Tina Dunbar, Gloria Jones, and the loving staff at Brian Center, Low Moor. She will be missed by her family pets, Crockett, Flower, Nathan, and Jax, who enjoyed the many treats she gave them each day.

In keeping with her wishes, the funeral service will be private. Friends may call anytime at 801 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge.
