Obituary for Sara Jean Farley Householder Sara Jean Farley Householder
Rockbridge County Resident Dies At Age 85

Sara Jean Farley Householder, 85, died at home with family around her on February 6, 2021.

She was born in Marietta, Ohio on November 26, 1935, one of five children to Hilma and Barnard Farley.

Sara met her husband, Ralph, also of Marietta, and they married on June 26, 1955. They lived at the Marietta College apartments while he finished his last year of study. Sara worked as a telephone operator and raised their Kitty, Fluffo.

Upon graduation they moved to Charleston, W.Va., and their daughter Lisa was born there. The next move was to Staunton and their second daughter, Lori arrived. After another move, to Harrisonburg, they had a son, Brad.

The last move was to Lexington in 1971 where they built their home and became part of the community. Sara was a homemaker and tended her family well. She enjoyed making a comfortable home, the numerous cats that joined the family, watching birds and spending time outdoors. Spring was her favorite season with all the flowers, red buds and dogwoods blooming.

Sara made it through colon cancer and over the past 10 years battled a second form of cancer, Multiple Myeloma.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph and daughter, Lisa of Lexington; daughter, Lori and son-in-law, Jimmy Pullin of Stuarts Draft; son, Brad and grandson, Miles of Roanoke; granddaughters, Cyndi Pullin of Charlottesville and Laura Pullin Kearney and her husband, Burke of Carlisle, Pa.

Sara was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

The family will attend a private entombment at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A memorial service will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Friday, February 12 by the Rev. Joe Cailles. Masks and social distancing will be observed.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at UVA Hope Cancer Center, Augusta. They provided great care that allowed her to stay with us for so long. Thanks to friends and neighbors who helped, called and came by to spend time with her. Also our thanks to everyone from Rockbridge Area Hospice who cared for Sara in the last part of her journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hospice, RARA or any organization that benefits animals.
