Obituary for John Griffin Hudson John Griffin Hudson
Longtime Covington Police Officer Was Former Covington Fire Department Captain

John Griffin Hudson entered peacefully into complete communion with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 13, 2021, in the comfort of his home after an extended illness.

Born on June 30, 1950 in Warm Springs, Virginia, he was the maternal son of the late Grace Etta Church of Warm Springs, Virginia.

He was adopted and raised by the late Richard Robert Hudson and Estelle Hobson Hudson of Warm Springs, Virginia.

Mr. Hudson was educated in Bath County, Virginia at Union Hurst School, Valley High School and attended Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.

He retired after 33 years with Covington Police Department at the rank of sergeant and served as the emergency 911 coordinator, among many other career accomplishments. His spirit of calm professionalism is his legacy.

He simultaneously developed a true passion for the Covington Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad serving diligently as squad captain for two years and active member of both for twenty years. He was an NRA supporter, Hunter safety instructor and gun enthusiast. He loved singing in the men’s choir as a member of Pine Street Baptist Church.

John's life will always be celebrated by those who knew and loved him. He had a delightfully dry sense of humor and an amazing willingness to volunteer a helping hand. As a husband, father, brother, uncle and friend his legacy will forever be: "Well, the thing about it is….."
