Former Highland County Registrar Dies At Age 97

Irene Corbett McAllister, 97, widow of William T. McAllister of Roanoke, formerly of Mustoe, Virginia, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021 at her home.

Mrs. McAllister was born January 29, 1924 in Mustoe, a daughter of the late Janet Lillian (Gutshall) and Russell Glenn Corbett Sr.

A devout Christian, Mrs. McAllister was a member of Victory Chapel Church, where she served as treasurer for 30 years and was active in the Women's Home and Foreign Mission Society and Virginia Advent Christian Conference.

Mrs. McAllister retired after serving 12 years as General Registrar in Highland County.

Mrs. McAllister will be remembered for her love of cooking, preparing many meals with the W.H. & F.M. Society for the Monterey Lion's Club, sharing her special dishes at church events; enjoying her family and spending summers at Smith Mountain Lake with her sister, Janet Marie. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.

Mrs. McAllister is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Maydian of Collinsville and Jan Keffer of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Tara Scott, Darren Maydian and wife, Heather, Jason Fridley and wife, Jeni, Daniel McAllister and Jennifer Berry and husband, Matt; 11 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kaylee, Chase, Andrew, Carter, Riley, Claire, Grant, Dawson, Dyllan and Devin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Donald Glenn McAllister; two brothers, R. G. Corbett Jr. and Charles Eldon Corbett; sister, Janet Marie Marshall.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Monterey Cemetery with pastor T. G. Ayers officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camp ACCOVAC, 33021 Mountain Valley Road, Millboro, Va. 24460.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and Nurse Sarah of Roanoke.
