Obituary for Gerald Lloyd Sizemore Sr. Gerald Lloyd Sizemore Sr.
Retired C&O Railroad Brakeman Was Covington Bible Church Member

Gerald Lloyd Sizemore Sr., 88, of 824 Pocahontas Ave., Covington, Virginia, passed away March 17, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Sizemore was born November 10, 1932 in Virginia, a son of the late Aulden C. and Izor Sizemore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Arrington; two brothers, Donald Sizemore Sr. and Ryland Sizemore; a half-brother, Wayne Petty; three half-sisters, Shelby Broughman, Linda Stevens, and Susie Cobb.

Gerald was a retired brakeman for the C&O Railroad and a member of Covington Bible Church.

He was known as a hard-worker and loved his family and was a Indianapolis Colts fan, then switched to the Denver Broncos to follow his favorite quarterback, Peyton Manning.

Surviving are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Higgins and husband, Ruben and Phyllis Phillips and husband, Clinton; two sons, Wayne Sizemore and wife, Dee Ann and Gerald Sizemore Jr., all of Covington; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; a brother, Calvin Sizemore; three half-brothers, Larry Sizemore, Audie Sizemore, and Kenneth Petty; one half sister, Rosalie Blankenship; and close friends, Stanley and Nancy Burchfield, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held Sunday March 21, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Williams officiating assisted by Rev. Steve Noel.

Military rites will be presented on Sunday at the service by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends following the service at Arritt Funeral Home on Sunday.

The interment will be held private. The funeral arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
