"Unofficial Mayor" Of Natural Well Worked With Rip's Country Club WVVA HealthCare Alliance

Mrs. Nancy Kay Andrews McFarland, age 66, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 16, 2021, surrounded by her family at her residence.

She was the wife of John Michael "Mike" McFarland.

Mrs. McFarland was born February 17, 1955 in Covington, the daughter of the late Hurshell Carlyle Andrews and Mary Elizabeth Lockhart Andrews.

She was a lifetime resident of Alleghany County and a 1973 graduate of Alleghany County High School.

She was employed by WVVA HealthCare Alliance.

Prior to her healthcare industry position, she was an owner and operator, along with her parents, of Rip's Country Store.

Nancy's endearing personality and energy, teaming with her parents, made Rip's Country Store the business and social gathering point for Natural Well. She became the "unofficial mayor" of Natural Well.

Nancy was an avid Virginia Tech fan who enjoyed cheering for her beloved Hokies. She also enjoyed watching professional basketball especially the Golden State Warriors. She was an amazing cook and loved animals but most of all, Nancy loved and cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her many cherished friends all around Covington and Alleghany County.

Nancy was a special and cherished friend to everyone who knew her. Any interaction with Nancy always brightened your day.

In addition to her husband, Mike, Mrs. McFarland is survived by two daughters, Jenna Marie McFarland (Brett Proffitt) and Morgan Taylor McFarland; four grandchildren, Gracyn Carlisle Proffitt, Cole Dwayne Proffitt, Braylen Taylor McFarland and Sierra Danielle Proffitt; a brother, Charles Elliott "C.E." Andrews and wife, Jean; brother-in-law, Donnie Wheatley; niece, Mary Beth Banagan; four nephews, Darren Wheatley, Todd Wheatley, Chas Andrews and Alex Andrews; a number of great nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Mary Sue and Eddie Smith, Jackie and Mike Wade, Ann and Ricky May.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McFarland was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Carlisle Wheatley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Nancy was blessed with the loving care of Mountain Regional Hospice and the loving and unconditional care provided by Christy Wiley, Tonya Wolfe, Arletta Griffith and Eva Buchanan.
