Delia Weaver Hoeffel, 71, of Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, passed away in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, April 2, 2021.

Delia was born on June 20, 1949 in Warrenton to William "Bill" B. Weaver Jr. and Barbour "Peggy" Johnson Weaver.

She was a proud member of the Colonial Dames of America, women who are descended from an ancestor who lived in early British America and served the colonies.

Delia attended Radford University, where she studied visual arts.

On October 22, 1983, she married Kenneth Mortimer Hoeffel Jr. They moved to Rockbridge County in 1991 and raised a daughter, Delia Teel Hoeffel.

Delia was known for her kind, compassionate spirit and love of animals. She was a talented equestrian, competing as a finalist in Junior Equitation for the Virginia Horse Show Association and foxhunting with the Bull Run Hunt, among other hunting and trail riding clubs. She served as a director of the Virginia Thoroughbred Association in the 1980s, and later worked for Virginia Military Institute coordinating state conferences. She was also an avid dog lover, volunteering at the Rockbridge SPCA and making her home into a haven for numerous shelter dogs and strays.

Delia was a talented artist; she used her training in the fine arts to create beautiful drawings and watercolors of the animals, sporting life and natural environment she loved so much.

She also loved to entertain, delighting in hosting dinner parties, picnics and holiday meals for her circle of friends. Her home was always full of the cheerful chaos of dogs, cats, friends and family.

Delia was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Peggy Weaver.

She is survived by her husband, Ken and her daughter, Teel.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10 at Hopkins Green in Lexington at 2 p.m.
