John Ralph Custer, age 80, of 119 West Parrish Street, Covington, Virginia died Monday, April 12, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.

John was born November 23, 1940 in Botetourt County, Virginia to the late John J. and Elsie Herron Custer.

He retired from Hercules/A.E.T., Inc. and was a member of Low Moor Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Bliss Custer.

He Is survived by his sister, Mary Custer of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn "Bo" Bliss and Carolyn Hatley, both of Iron Gate; a nephew, Edward Hatley and wife, Dee; great nephews, Calvin Hatley and Zane Hatley; and great niece, Hallie Bliss Barnes.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Friday April 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Eagle Rock Cemetery in Eagle Rock with Reverend Lisa Marshall officiating. Interment will immediately follow. There will be no formal visitation. However, friends may call any time at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
