Former Dollar General Assistant Manager Was Salvation Army Church Member

Esolde (Sam) Downey McCulley, age 60, of 126 North Monroe Avenue, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, April 24, 2021 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor.

She was born November 18, 1960 in Arlington, Virginia, to the late Garnett Ardella Downey.

She was a former Assistant Manager for Dollar General of Covington and a member of the Salvation Army Church of Covington.

She enjoyed collecting Native American Art, scrap booking, shooting guns, and fishing. She loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by three sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Wayne McCulley of Covington; three daughters, Constance McCulley of Covington, Lindsay Aldridge of Covington, and Lelah Adkins and fiancé, Jared Caldwell of Clifton Forge; a sister, Elotia Downey and a brother, Ezekiel Downey, both of Clifton Forge; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; three grandchildren, Levi Adkins, Kyrie Aldridge, and Aaron Michael McCulley; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and her dog, "Pepper".

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at on Sunday, May 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church in Covington.

Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Salvation Army Food Pantry, 149 N. Maple Ave, Covington, VA 24426.
