Former Jackson River Enterprises Supervisor Was Navy Veteran, Baltimore Police Officer

Herbert Thomas (Tom) Carver, Jr., age 76, of 829 Madison Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at LewisGale Hospital- Alleghany, Low Moor.

Tom was born July 8, 1944 in Covington, Virginia to the late Herbert Thomas Carver, Sr. and Sally Louvene Nicholas Carver.

He served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVA65) and was a former officer with the mounted police for Baltimore City Police Department.

He was a supervisor for Jackson River Enterprises of Covington for 15 years, a former ranch hand cowboy for Kings Ranch, and also worked in the security and private investigations business.

He was a longstanding member of the First Christian Church of Covington.

Tom enjoyed his motorcycles and was a founder of a 16-year-old ABATE motorcycle organization ("Mountain Thunder") and was a longstanding member of the CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association).

He formerly enjoyed cannon firing at Civil War re-enactments, mountain man rendezvousing, and was a movie buff, especially enjoying John Wayne movies. He excelled at leather crafting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bunny Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie June Goad Carver; a sister, Pauline Harrison; brothers-in-law, Paul Goad (Sandy), David Goad (Drema), and William Goad; nieces and nephews include Cindy McPail (Bryan) and their daughter, Alexis, Nancy Ierna (Randy) and their son, Byron (Lorie), Alan Harrison (Beverly), Brian Goad (Andrea), Tina Webb, Justin Goad (Angie), and Daniel Goad (Connie).

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Bill Gilliland and Reverend Buddy Burks officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

Pallbearers will be Mark Balser, Tom Burnette, Pat Caldwell, Ken Crowder, Allen Harrison, Toy Higgins, Dewey Southall, and Tom Wheeler. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. For the safety of others, please observe all current Covid restrictions if at all possible.
