Obituary for Emma Beulah (Fix) Chittum Emma Beulah (Fix) Chittum
Former Fairfield Resident Worked With Local Banks; Dies At Age 97

Emma Beulah (Fix) Chittum, age 97, passed away on May 10, 2021.

She was a resident of Eclipse Senior Living in Hagerstown, Maryland. Prior to this, she had resided in Fairfield, Virginia from 1943 until 2013.

Beulah was born on August 6, 1923 in Rockbridge County. She was the daughter of the late James Henry Fix Sr. and Carrie Belle (Fix) Fix and was the widow of W. Clinton Chittum, who died on Nov. 28, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James H. Fix Jr. and her sisters, Pauline F. Miller and Isabelle F. Scott.

She was a graduate of Fairfield High School, class of 1940. After high school she completed courses in business at Lexington High School. She was employed at Peoples National Bank in Lexington, The Bank of Rockbridge in Fairfield and BB&T Bank in Fairfield from which she retired in 1987.

Beulah was a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church where she was the treasurer for many years and where she sang in the choir. She was a charter and life member of Fair Hills Garden Club. She was also a former member of Business & Professional Women's Club of Rockbridge County.

She had great joy working in her garden, growing, and arranging flowers, knitting and crotchet.

Beulah is survived by her nieces Ann F. Runkle, Patti S. Winslow and Linda S. Babb. She is also survived by her nephews, Albert W. Miller, James E. Miller, DeWitt Fix and Talmadge Fix.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church cemetery located at 5508 North Lee Highway, Fairfield, with the Rev. Punker Robertson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
